Join Song in the City for a special evening celebrating the music of one of Wales’s most important twentieth-century composers, Grace Williams, as we approach the 50th anniversary of her death in 2027.

Welsh singers Sioned Gwen Davies and Llio Evans, joined by pianist Gavin Roberts, bring Williams’s rarely performed songs to life in the beautiful surroundings of St Giles Cripplegate. The programme includes the evocative song cycle Billows of the Sea, alongside Green Rain, The Mad Maid’s Song, I Had a Little Nut Tree and other songs, complemented by music from fellow Welsh composers.

Grace Williams occupies a remarkable place in Welsh musical history, yet much of her vocal music is still rarely heard in concert. This recital offers a chance to discover the richness, colour and individuality of her songs through three performers with a particular connection to this repertoire.

The concert forms the London strand of a wider Grace Williams project developed by Sioned Gwen Davies and Llio Evans, leading up to the 50th anniversary of the composer’s death.

As part of Song in the City’s Community Concerts series, the evening will be informal and welcoming, with introductions to the music and its stories along the way. Whether you already know Grace Williams’s music or are encountering it for the first time, you are warmly invited to join us.
