Songs of Solidarity 2026 - Anthems of Resistance

SoS festival 2026, Anthems of Resistance, takes its name from Ali Husain Mir’s book documenting the Progressive Writers’ Movement, which emerged in the 1930s in resistance to injustice, colonialism and imperialism. Find one another in the chorus!

Events list

Songs of Solidarity (SoS) began in December 2025 as a free, three-day interdisciplinary community-led festival with an aim to bring together independent literature from Aotearoa and the Global South. In response to substantial interest from artists, writers, publishers and community organisations, the pilot developed into a wider interdisciplinary festival of literature, workshops, public discussion, poetry, music, film, food and independent publishing.

SoS has been operating as a civic infrastructure space across different locations in Pōneke since then. In July 2026, we decided to pursue the pathway of the registered legal entity, and SoS is now a registered charitable trust - Songs of Solidarity (SoS) Trust. The registration number of our charity is CC65122.

The second edition of Songs of Solidarity festival is back this year. The theme this year is Anthems of Resistance, takes its name from Ali Husain Mir’s book documenting the Progressive Writers’ Movement, which emerged in the 1930s in resistance to injustice, colonialism and imperialism.
