Event information:

  • The workshop will cover a range of songwriting techniques, including lyric writing, melody development, arranging, hooks, and rhythm.
  • The workshop is open to singers, instrumentalists, and anyone with an interest in music and songwriting. Whether you're already writing songs or simply curious to learn more, all levels of experience are welcome.
  • If you play an acoustic instrument and would like to bring it along (such as acoustic guitar or ukulele), you are very welcome to do so. A keyboard, cajón, and microphone will be available at the venue for participants to use.
  • Workshop facilitators Esther Keappock (Songwriter, vocalist and pianist) and Brendan Johnson (Songwriter, guitarist) are experienced music tutors (Solent University / CODA Music and Arts centre / Hampshire Music Service) with a wealth of professional songwriting and pop, rock and folk performance experience.
  • Spaces are limited to 10 per session: 1 booking per person (please choose between morning or afternoon session). Children aged 8-11 years old will need to attend independently: adults/carers will be required to drop off / pick-up from the main hall entrance.
  • Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. When you book a ticket, you will be sent a registration form requesting medical and emergency contact details, along with information about our safeguarding policy. Your child's place on the workshop will be confirmed once the completed paperwork has been received. If you no longer require a place, please email esther@folkforthefolk.com so that it can be offered to another participant.

This workshop is part of Culture Quest, a Dorset-wide initiative that encourages children and families to discover and engage with the wide range of creative and cultural opportunities available in their local area.
