The Jon Lloyd Quartet is a European contemporary jazz group featuring saxophone and piano, performing original music in the ECM tradition. Since forming in early 2023, the quartet has performed concerts across the UK and Europe.

The quartet brings together four superb musicians. Virtuoso pianist John Law, who leads his groups Congregation and Re-Creations, has been a leading figure in UK jazz for many years. Drummer Alex Goodyear is a dynamic young powerhouse, currently playing with Yetii, Simon Spillett and Re-Creations. Nick Pini is an in-demand bassist across jazz (Iain Ballamy), folk (Laura Marling) and rock (Mirador).

Saxophonist Jon Lloyd has been a prominent figure on the UK jazz and improvised music scene for many years. His recording credits include releases on LEO, HatOlogy and Ubuntu Music. He has also toured with the Contemporary Music Network alongside Bill Frisell and, more recently, performed with this quartet and the duo Naissance.

The quartet released Earth Songs on Ubuntu Music in 2024. Acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, the album has amassed over 2.5 million streams worldwide. Their second album, Anima, has just been released. The quartet's music is emotionally direct and accessible, appealing to jazz enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

“Lloyd's saxophone sound is compelling throughout, often carrying an eloquent, Nordic quality. Complemented by his exemplary quartet, he takes the compositions through an impressive range of atmospheric, textural, reflective and dynamic moods. Expansive and accessible, Anima is an album of subtle interplay and shimmering beauty.” All About Jazz, Anima album review, 2026

“His tunes are steeped in the ECM aesthetic, and he and long-time collaborator John Law on piano make it sound like the only music you ever want to hear.” Jon Turney, UK Jazz News

“The interplay between the quartet members is magical, instinctive… creating music of often startling beauty.” Peter Vacher, Jazzwise, Earth Songs album review, 2024
