About the session

Join us to hear from Music Hubs across England that have been developing their Youth Voice practice through projects that place young people’s needs and ideas at the centre. In this online session, Sound Connections’ 2025–26 Activate grantees will share key learnings, evaluation insights and examples of emerging best practice from working with young people across a range of contexts.

What to expect:

Following their participation in Sound Connections’ Activate investment programme 2025–26, Bristol Beacon, Leicestershire Music Hub, and Norfolk & Suffolk Music Hub will share insights into how they have developed youth voice within their practice over the past twelve months. You’ll hear about the design and delivery of each project from project lead staff and young participants alike.

Each Music Hub will explore:

  • The design and delivery of their Activate projects
  • Key learnings and reflections from working with young people
  • The impact of youth-led approaches in a Music Hub context
  • Their plans for sustaining and developing this work

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and take part in open discussion, or simply listen and reflect, on youth voice in practice.

Who is this session for?

This session is open to:

  • Anyone working in music, creative or cultural sectors
  • Those interested in youth voice, participation and co-creation
  • Practitioners curious about how this approach works in a Music Hub setting

Featuring:

Bristol Beacon

Bristol Beacon’s Youth Voice Development project aimed to establish meaningful ways of developing more youth voice work in their ensembles programme, ensuring that young people play a central role in shaping their musical experiences. The project included training and the creation of youth voice committees within each ensemble, culminating in a major summer festival, co-created and co-produced by young people.
