In this twilight session participants will gain an insight into how young children can engage and learn through musical play. This will include a brief outline on the benefits of musical play for very young children with additional needs; top tips for approaches to delivering music; practical and playful examples to enjoy with emerging and additional needs including visuals, instruments (for use by young children), songs and poems; shared links for further training, resources and articles; downloadable songs and activities to enjoy with your own group.

Who is the session for?

Early years practitioners (teachers, nursery staff, children centre staff) who want to gather material and ideas for music activities, and musicians and early years music practitioners who want to expand and develop their own resources.

Emma Hutchinson

Emma’s career spans nearly 30 years music in early childhood. With an MA in early childhood music Emma’s studies, life and work confirms that multimodal approaches combined with pedagogical know-how in early childhood communication and learning impacts positively. She founded Music House for Children to nurture early development and wellbeing through music.

Emma developed several early years training courses to encourage practitioners and teachers to embed music into existing skills and qualifications. She is widely respected by the early childhood communities in her continued passion for research and practice in the field, and in particular her work with developing communication and life skills in young children with emerging needs.
