This session is in partnership with the South Riverside Music Partnership, open to all music educators working in the boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Royal Greenwich.

Join us for a practical session; Decolonising the Music Curriculum in Practice

Facilitated by Jenetta Hurst, during the session, teachers, music specialists and musicians will spend time implementing strategies in the continued journey of decolonising their music teaching practice.

We recognise that practitioners are at different stages of the decolonisation journey and the session will look at key considerations of decolonisation while developing confidence and sharing good practice amongst the group.

Delegates will come away from this session with 5 solid considerations and 5 action points relating to decolonisation, plus a practical plan for implementing strategies in their upcoming teaching / workshopping.

Who is this for?

This session is open to all music educators working in the boroughs of Lambeth, Lewisham, Royal Greenwich and Southwark including:

  • instrumental and vocal teachers
  • primary, secondary and SEND teachers with a responsibility for music
  • workshop leaders
  • community musicians

Sound Connections and the South Riverside Music Partnership (SRMP) are working together to deliver a training and networking programme for music teachers and leaders in Lambeth, Lewisham, Royal Greenwich and Southwark. This is the third event in this series, with the fourth taking place towards the end of the summer term. This series is made possible thanks to funding from the SCOPS Arts Trust.
