November Meeting: 'Open to the demonic'

Thu 20 Nov 2025 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Friends Meeting House, TN34 1SA

Join us for our final evening of listening-led discussion for 2025, exploring sound in all its forms and meanings 👂

This month, we’re continuing the spirit of Halloween 🎃 with a discussion of 'Open to the demonic: A sonic articulation of desire' — Chapter three from D. Ferrett’s Dark Sound (2020) and we will be using our Constellation Mapping sound dialoguing score to facilitate a listening-led discussion.

Our Ethos:

The Sound Studies Book Club is an independent, care-centred space for reading, listening and conversing about sound. Each month we choose a sound studies text — for example, a book chapter, journal article, poem or artist statement — and circulate it at least two weeks in advance.

We then meet in person (usually in Hastings) to share our thoughts on the chosen text using a discussion framework that centres listening and openness over traditional academic debate. These frameworks are slowly evolving into a growing collection of scores for dialoguing sound,  reimagining how we listen and speak together about sound.

How it works:

Your ticket acts as a donation towards the venue hire and event admin.

After purchasing your ticket, you’ll be redirected to a new page where you will be able to download this month’s text and dialoguing framework, and also read our participation guidelines. You’ll also be invited to join our WhatsApp group, where you can connect with other attendees. The above will be circulated in a confirmation email too.
