Description
The Leader of Southampton City Council invites you to join us for an evening of inspiration and empowerment. Network with like minded women from across various sectors and hear from our guest speakers on this year's International Women's Day theme: #InspireInclusion.
Guest speakers:
Nassema Begum: Street Homeless Prevention Team
Nassema will be talking about her voluntary work in her local community. Nassema helps with the washing of the deceased for shrouding burial for Muslim women, children and babies with the Muslim funeral directives and Mosque committees. As well as providing support and comfort for the families.
Amy Moir: Vice-President Activities - University of Southampton Students' Union
Amy's remit includes student safety and wellbeing on campus and around the city, particularly the night-time economy as well as supporting marginalised community groups. She will be speaking about her work on period poverty, consent culture and LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Bethan Court: Systems Specialist at DP World
DP World Southampton is one of the largest container terminals in the UK, handling over 1 million containers a year.
Growing up, Bethan was told she talked too much, hindering her potential. But at DP World, she found a space where her "chattiness" became a strength.
Sarah Dockree: Activist
From living and working in rural Nigeria over 20 years ago, her journey of motherhood and over the last decade or more as church based leader and volunteer in the community, Sarah will be sharing what she has learnt on the way that's led her to believe passionately that creating and nurturing community is key to being truly inclusive.
Jemma Brown: Accessibility Activist
Visually impaired Jemma will be talking about her experience as an accessibility activist.
This event will take place in the Mayors Parlour in the Civic Centre. Light refreshments will be provided.
In person tickets are limited. If you choose to join online, you will be emailed a link to join the event at least an hour prior to the event start time. The panel will start at 5pm.
