Description

Gateway Competition & Pleasure Drive

The BC Gateways are competitions in 3 parts, designed to be fun for newcomers to the sport of Competition Carriage Driving and for other, more experienced, drivers.

  1. Compulsory Shapes Like dressage, you will drive a pattern of 10 movements in trot, walk and halt and will be judged on Rhythm, Suppleness and Contact. The test can be ‘called’ by your groom.
  2. Cones. Between 10 and 14 pairs of cones will be set out for you to drive through in number order, keeping ‘red on the right’.
  3. Obstacles. Four obstacles, each with gates flagged A to E, will be part of the competition. There may be some distance between them or they may be in one small area (this will depend on the organiser), but whichever there won't be a great distance involved

The rules and Compulsory Shapes (dressage test) can be found on the British Carriage driving website  - www.britishcarriagedriving.co.uk/gateway

The dressage arena size will be decided once we have closed entries, to best suit the turn-outs

Classes:

  • BC Gateway Newcomers. Entries will be accepted from any turnout (except teams of 4 equines) as long as they have not competed at Intermediate level or above in any BC Affiliated Club event or at Novice or above at any BC Regional or National event.
  • Gateway Allcomers is open to any turnout - horse and pony, single and multiple. Ideal for those bringing on a new equine or combination, or for those that have been out of the sport for some time. Small equines and short format competitors are eligible too.

Winners will qualify to compete at the National Championships in September.  NOTE: To qualify any driver must be a FULL member of BC, or a BC affiliated club

Alternative Fun Class

For those that are not FULL member of BC, or a BC affiliated club, they will be entered into the fun class which will not be held against the clock.
