Four Weeks of Ghanaian Drumming with Abli

For four weeks this October, we’re very fortunate to have Ghanaian master drummer Nii Otu Laryea (Abli) leading our Tuesday African drumming classes in South Morang.

This is a rare opportunity to spend four consecutive weeks learning Ghanaian drumming with a master drummer who grew up in the tradition.

About Abli

Originally from Nungua, Ghana, Abli has been immersed in drumming from a young age. His musical background is rooted in the traditions of the Ga people, alongside a broad knowledge of rhythms and drumming styles from Ghana and elsewhere in West Africa.

Abli is an experienced performer and teacher who has taken Ghanaian music to audiences internationally. He plays and teaches a range of West African instruments, including djembe, dun dun and traditional Ghanaian drums such as kpanlogo.

Across the block, we’ll have the chance to get properly into some Ghanaian rhythms and experience a different approach to the music.

Abli will teach the classes on 6, 13, 20 and 27 October, before Jacob returns for the final class of the block.

Class Details:

Classes run on Tuesday nights from 7:00–8:30pm. All experience levels are welcome! Classes can be booked in blocks of five weeks or terms of ten weeks and full payment for the block or term is required when booking (or in cash at the start of the first class).

The dates for this block are: 

October 6th – Abli
October 13th – Abli
October 20th – Abli
October 27th – Abli
November 10th – Jacob

(no class on November 3rd because of a horse race)

Booking Options:

5-week block – $175
Includes all four classes with Abli + the final class with Jacob

Rest of 2026 – 10 classes – $250
Book both remaining blocks and save $100
