Free community event where you can get free repairs, fix-up your bike, learn from inspiring speakers or skill-up at our workshops.

Southwark Climate Day is our free community event taking place on Saturday 22 June at London Southbank University Hub, in Elephant and Castle. The event will run from 10am to 2pm.

It’s open to everyone and is a drop-in event, meaning you can come at any point and stay for as long as you would like. You can stop by for 15 minutes and look around our stalls, or stay for the duration and get involved in some workshops.

All day stalls and pop-ups

This year we have even more to offer as part of our community climate fair running all day. You can:

  • join our clothes swap and bring no more than five pre-loved items which you can exchange for new-to-you items, run by LOANHOOD
  • get household items repaired (like headphones or textiles) by fixers from Repair Café Nunhead
  • get free energy advice for your home – including how to keep your home cool during the warm summer weather
  • get your bike serviced or fixed for free by a bicycle mechanic
  • buy and donate second-hand bicycles and raise money for charity
  • get a free health check (blood pressure, weight, alcohol and stop smoking advice, cancer screening advice and more)
  • pick up new skills, ideas, and sustainable cooking recipes
  • meet like-minded neighbours and local groups

Booking a free ticket in advance will help us manage numbers on the day. Individual room capacities for workshops and pop-ups will be managed on the day to ensure that no rooms exceed their safe limits. This may mean that if you arrive and a session is already full, you may have to wait, or attend one of our different workshop or activities that are available.

Workshops

We also have lots of exciting workshops running throughout the day, including classes where you can learn new skills. Some of these workshops will have a limited number of spaces so you should reserve a place in advance to avoid disappointment.

Black Men’s Consortium and Tony Cealy interactive workshop

This performance will begin at 12 noon and will last 90 minutes. This will be followed by a workshop.

The Black Men’s Consortium supports Black Men affected by mental illness through immersive theatrical performances. They will host a 90-minute theatrical performance about climate change and black men’s mental health. This will be followed by an interactive workshop run by Tony Cealy, founder of the Black Men’s Consortium, theatre practitioner and cultural producer. Tony is passionate about developing policy solutions alongside people most affected by them.
