This two-day workshop is ideal for beginner, intermediate and advanced artists who would like to gain experience in painting the portrait, a subject which some find to be overwhelming at first.  In this course, you will learn a structured, reproducible approach, starting by blocking in big shapes and then gradually moving into the details. You will gain confidence in tackling this complex subject and improve your observational skills along the way.

Working on a single portrait for the duration of the course will give you the chance to fully explore the portrait, working in depth and taking your work to completion. You will learn the basics on the use and handling of the supplies & materials, as well as how to work from photographs.

Marian will teach you how to "lay in" a painting, develop local areas of colour, make important colour decisions, and maintain correct proportions to create a stunning work of art.

Marian is an award-winning artist, educator and an art coach at the prestigious New Masters Academy Online Art School. Portraiture was her passion at school and convinced her that she wanted the arts to be a core part of her life. Marian graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a First Class degree in Printmaking, having worked across many media during her studies. Working as a Graphic Designer / Medical Illustrator in collaborative projects in the field of medical research, scientific journals and patient information for the NHS, her design work has been published in academic papers, research articles and academic books and Marian continues to works as a freelance designer in this field. Since 2013 Marian has been investing her passion, knowledge and skills into her work as a teacher where she runs a very successful art department.
