SWA Summer School 2024 - Jenny Gunning, Non-Toxic Etching (1 day)
Tue 20 Aug 2024 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM BST
South West Art, EX10 8LP
Description
Working from your own images, this course will teach you how to prepare the plate and apply the B.I.G. ground. You will draw through the BIG applied to your plate and then Jenny will take you through the process of how to etch the line, apply an aquatint, and then etch tone into your plate as well.
Inking and printing the final plate will be great fun and you will have the chance to use both colour and traditional black inks to get some excellent prints from the plate for you to take away with you. You will have both final prints and a plate to take away with you at the end of the day.
Jenny will be providing you the use of one of the fantastic Gunning Presses and you will use lots of incredible tools and equipment to create a traditional etching using non-toxic printmaking materials and techniques. You can do this method in your own studio or kitchen if you wanted to - it's very safe (a little unpredictable but all printmaking is!).
Please Note: this is a very intense day - you will learn an awful lot, many who come on these days say how tired they are at the end of it - make sure you have an early night lined up!
The cost for this workshop is inclusive of all materials and equipment which will provided for you.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 10 COST: £75 ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED
Jenny Gunning loves printmaking, and has been printmaking since she was 7 years old, picking up on her fathers' enthusiasm as a skilled printmaker, she caught the bug early for this artform! She loves aquatint etchings and making large pieces with this method. She is an expert in all printmaking techniques, having both qualifications and many years of experience Jenny is now not only a full time printmaker in her own right but she also supports the customers of her family business - Ironbridge Fine Art who have been making and distributing the fantastic Gunning Etching Presses and other purpose designed & built printmaking equipment for the past 41 years. Jenny is now writing a book on printmaking techniques which she is managing to juggle around both her own art career and their business and customers' needs! She's a busy artist & business woman but her love for printmaking is at the heart of Jenny's every day practice and she loves sharing her enthusiasm for these skills with new people.
