Do you ever get stuck starting and/or finishing a painting? Or do you fancy painting in oils or acrylics but don’t know how to get started? With this two day course Matt plans to take you through the entire process of planning, creating & finishing a painting. With John demonstrating throughout Matt’s tutorials this course will take you through the basics of composition, colour & tone theory, finishing and everything between.

Whether you are a total beginner or a regular painter looking for some new input or a confidence boost, this course will be of value you to, the small group numbers enable plenty of individual attention and for Matt to tailor his tuition to each participant.

Matt (also know as "Pidge") is predominantly known as a landscape artist painting exclusively in oil paint, living and working in East Devon. He is largely self taught and for over a decade staunchly painted outdoors only, incorporating his love of being out in the countryside, especially near water, allowed him to develop his passion for painting. Working from life outdoors is an intensive, wonderful and sometimes frustrating way to learn the art of painting, one that forces you to work quickly and intuitively, and making the swift & efficient mixing of accurate colours is essential. Now painting both outdoors and in, he uses his love of the sea and the coastline to create his
paintings through a mix of painting from life and his imagination. Over the years he has had many students, a number of which have gone on themselves to sell their work successfully, with helping others to develop their own creativity being a love second only to that of painting itself for him.

John Rabbetts will be on hand in addition to Matt’s guidance; born in Southampton, John is a west country artist based in Cornwall having previously been a prominent artist in West Dorset. John has won several awards and has been painting for three decades. His main interest is in the human form, but he is also known for his landscapes and use of colour muted colours. John will be demonstrating the skills that Matt will guide you through to give an accurate and ideal visual aid to work to.
