This two day course will encourage you to develop a broad brush and expressive approach to painting the landscape. It will start in the studio with rapid painted sketches of landscape, seascapes and figures in the environment. Phil will encourage and guide you to develop dynamic mark making, to simplify forms and surface, to portray the essentials of the landscape. Composition, colour, tone and technique will be explored to enable considered and well designed compositions to be achieved. You will be using a variety of surfaces and a wide range of brushes, and weather permitting, potentially some study time out of the studio from life.
Phil studied Fine Art Painting receiving his Bachelor of Arts from Manchester University before undertaking Postgraduate study in the History of Art at Birmingham University.
