How Tyntesfield is Adapting to the Changing World of Volunteering

Join colleagues from National Trust Tyntesfield for a practical and engaging look at how volunteering is changing and how heritage organisations can adapt to meet new challenges.

With changing volunteer demographics, evolving visitor expectations, and increasing pressure on resources, many organisations are rethinking how they recruit, support and retain volunteers. Through a case study from one of the National Trust's busiest properties, Ellie Speechly and Alice Chadwick will share how Tyntesfield has transformed its volunteer programme to create a more agile, inclusive and sustainable model.

The session will explore:

• Changing volunteer motivations and availability
• Creating flexible and inclusive volunteer opportunities
• Managing organisational and cultural change
• Lessons learned from transforming an established volunteer programme
• Improving outcomes for volunteers, staff and visitors

There will be opportunities for discussion and questions throughout.

Speakers

Ellie Speechly, Senior Visitor Experience Officer, Tyntesfield

An archaeology graduate from the University of Exeter, Ellie works at Tyntesfield, one of the busiest National Trust properties in the country. She has extensive experience in heritage, community engagement, volunteer leadership and public programming, and is passionate about creating meaningful visitor experiences and making heritage accessible to everyone.

Alice Chadwick, Community, Participation and Volunteering Co-ordinator, Tyntesfield

A keen volunteer and experienced leader of volunteers for almost ten years, Alice has worked across a variety of organisations and sectors. Since joining the National Trust four years ago, she has helped shape Tyntesfield's volunteer programme and support its thriving volunteer community.

2:00pm - 3:30pm - Afternoon Workshop - Current Trends in Volunteer Engagement and Recruiting Effectively with Museum Development South West (FREE)

After lunch, join Museum Development South Westfor a free interactive workshop on volunteer engagement trends, with activities and discussions to build your recruiting skills and confidence.   The workshop is led by Eleanor Moore, Sustainable Volunteering Officer with MDSW.

Eleanor supports museums across the South West with volunteer involvement through advice, resources and training.  She also runs a Forum for volunteer co-ordinators across the South West Area and project manages MDSW’s current Connected for Change project.
