This last term I’ve been thinking a lot about joy.

Normally by this point in the year I’m busy chasing bookings, messaging people individually and trying to work out who’s coming back. But instead, I’ve mostly been outside in the sunshine with my children, and it reminded me of something important:

Play matters.

Connection matters.

And having spaces where we’re allowed to be silly, imaginative, spontaneous and gloriously imperfect matters more than ever.

So this summer, I’m trying something a little different.

Welcome to Improv Playground - a series of joyful, creative improv workshops exploring different styles of improvisation each week. You can join us for a single workshop that sparks your curiosity, or come along for the whole adventure.

Whether you’re:

• completely new to improv
• cautiously returning after years away
• someone who thinks “I’m not quick/confident/funny enough”
• or a seasoned improviser wanting to stretch yourself and play

…you are warmly welcome here.

No scripts. No pressure. No “right way” to do it.
Just humans making things up together.

Week 7 - Improv Playground Jam Night

A relaxed, playful improv jam drawing on everything we’ve explored this term - games, characters, stories, silliness and surprises.

Previous weeks

Week 1 - Core Principles & Play

A playful introduction to the foundations of improv: listening, saying yes, trusting yourself, supporting others and discovering that mistakes are often where the magic begins.

Week 2 - Whose Line Is It Anyway? Games Night

Fast-paced, joyful improv games inspired by the classic TV show. Expect laughter, silliness, spontaneity and glorious nonsense.

Week 3 - Fantasy, Creatures & Curious Beings

Dragons. Teacups. Forest spirits. Overworked photocopiers. Explore non-human characters, strange worlds and the joy of imaginative play.

Week 4 - Improvised Storytelling

Create stories together from absolutely nothing - funny, moving, ridiculous or unexpectedly beautiful. A workshop for storytellers, dreamers and curious humans.

Week 5 - Let Your Light Shine

Discover the little things that make a big difference on stage. Through games and playful exercises we'll explore stage pictures, positioning, vocal clarity, timing and presence - making all the wonderful things you create easier for everyone to see, hear and enjoy.

Week 6 - Finding the Funny

Comic instincts, joyful ridiculousness and discovering that being funny in improv isn’t about telling jokes - it’s about play, commitment and delight.
