Seven joyful workshops. Seven different ways to play. One wonderfully welcoming community.

At its heart, improv isn't about being the quickest person in the room. It's about listening, noticing, supporting each other and discovering stories you never could have planned.

That's exactly what The Improv Playground is all about.

Whether you're completely new to improv or you've been making things up for years, these workshops are designed to help you explore, experiment and, above all, have fun.

Each week brings something different, from playful games and scene work to time travel, musical improv and collaborative storytelling. You'll have the chance to try new things, discover what happens when you trust your instincts, and make wonderfully unexpected things happen together.

Come for the whole seven-week adventure and discover just how many different ways there are to play, or join us for individual workshops that catch your imagination. Each session stands happily on its own, while coming along regularly gives you more opportunities to build on what you've explored and develop your freedom and confidence to play.

Whether you're:

• Completely new to improv
• Returning after a break
• Someone who thinks, "I'm not quick, confident or funny enough"
• Or an experienced improviser looking to stretch yourself and play

What's on this term?

Thursday 5th November: Permission to Play

A playful introduction to the foundations of improv, exploring listening, saying yes, trusting your instincts and supporting each other. Discover how mistakes can become magic, and how much fun you can have when you stop worrying about getting things right. A lovely place to start, whether you're new to improv or coming back for more.

Thursday 12th November: Whose Line Is It Anyway? Games Night

Fast, silly and gloriously unpredictable! Inspired by the classic TV show, we'll play a whole range of improv games that invite you to think on your feet, make bold choices and embrace the ridiculous. Expect plenty of laughter, spontaneity and joyful nonsense.

Thursday 19th November: All Change! Tag-Outs & Transitions

Ready to shake things up? Explore the playful art of changing scenes, tagging characters out and moving the action somewhere unexpected. We'll experiment with ways to keep scenes flowing, build on each other's ideas and create surprising moments together. A great session for stretching your improv skills and discovering new possibilities.

Thursday 26th November: Time Travellers

What happened before this scene? What might happen next? And what if we could jump between the two? We'll explore flashbacks, flash-forwards, time jumps and glimpses into characters' pasts, discovering how different moments can connect to create bigger, richer and more surprising stories.

Thursday 3rd December: Musical Improv

Make up scenes, songs and musical moments on the spot! We'll play short-form musical improv games, explore turning scenes into songs, and discover how to create songs from audience suggestions. No singing experience needed, and absolutely no need to be a brilliant singer. Just bring your curiosity and willingness to play.

Thursday 10th December: Once Upon an Improv

Let's make up some stories! We'll explore playful storytelling games and formats, from one-word stories and narrator games to telling shared anecdotes together. The focus is on forms where stories are told directly to an audience and exploring how we connect that way. Expect unexpected twists, imaginative tales and the joy of discovering a story together, one idea at a time.

Thursday 17th December: Festive Improv Playground Jam

Let's finish the term with a joyful celebration of play! We'll bring together favourite games, scenes, characters, music and stories, with a few festive-themed surprises thrown in. A relaxed chance to experiment, play together and celebrate all the wonderfully unpredictable things we've made along the way.

Come along 15 minutes early for a cuppa and a gentle introduction before we begin. It's a relaxed chance to ask questions, meet me and settle in before everyone else arrives.
