SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) is a parent-based treatment for childhood and adolescent anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder that has been found to be as efficacious as individual cognitive-behavioral therapy.

This 2-day online workshop, offered by Dr. Eli Lebowitz of the Yale Child Study Center will cover all the essentials of delivering SPACE in a reliable and effective manner. The workshop will include case presentation, video excerpts, and simulations of treatment components.

Course level: Intermediate.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS WORKSHOP IS INTENDED FOR CLINICIANS (e.g. psychologists, social workers, etc.) AIMING TO DELIVER SPACE IN THEIR WORK - IT IS NOT AIMED AT PARENTS SEEKING GUIDANCE FOR THEIR OWN CHILD

SPACE is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists and maintains responsibility for this program and its content. 13.25 hours.

Satisfactory Completion:

Participants must have paid tuition fee, logged in and out each day, attended the entire webinar, and completed an evaluation to receive a certificate. Failure to log in or out will result in forfeiture of credit for the entire course. No exceptions will be made. Partial credit is not available. Certificates will be available following course completion.

SPACE, Provider #1234, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: [dates]. Social workers completing this course receive 13.25 clinical continuing education credits.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to:

1. Explain the ways in which anxiety manifests differently in children versus adults

2. Describe the empirical evidence supporting the efficacy of SPACE treatment and

the limitations of the evidence

3. Identify and describe the main components of the SPACE treatment

4. Formulate supportive parental responses to child anxiety

5. Develop plans for parents to reduce their parental accommodation of child anxiety,

OCD and related disorders

6. Identify potential barriers to treatment and how to manage them

Biographical Information: Dr. Lebowitz is a licensed, clinical psychologist who studies and treats childhood and adolescent anxiety. Dr. Lebowitz is the lead investigator on multiple funded research projects and is the author of numerous research papers and of books and chapters on childhood and adolescent anxiety. He is also the father of three great boys.
