This 1-day online workshop, offered by Dr. Yaara Shimshoni of the Yale Child Study Center will cover the adaptation of SPACE to parents of children with: Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

**NOTE: THESE ARE ARFID ONLY TRAININGS - THEY DO NOT COVER SPACE FOR FAILURE TO LAUNCH (FTL)**

Course Level: Advanced

Of note: Both the treatment protocol and the evidence base for SPACE-ARFID are in earlier stages of development, relative to SPACE for childhood anxiety/OCD.

The workshop is only open to providers who have previously attended a (2-day) SPACE training workshop.

SPACE is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists and maintains responsibility for this program and its content. 5 hours.

Satisfactory Completion:

Participants must have paid the tuition fee, logged in, attended the entire webinar, and completed an evaluation to receive a certificate. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Define restrictive eating behaviors and differentiate between picky eating and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) using current research.

2. Explain the rationale, theoretical foundations, and main treatment goals of the SPACE-ARFID intervention.

3. Implement techniques for assessing and managing food-related stress and provide supportive parental responses to restrictive eating behaviors.

4. Develop and stress-test detailed accommodation reduction plans tailored to individual family contexts.

5. Facilitate collaborative child-friendly activities aimed at enhancing food flexibility and positive family interactions during mealtimes.


BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

Dr. Shimshoni is a clinical psychologist certified in SPACE and has worked closely with Dr. Lebowitz for many years including on the development of SPACE-ARFID, the modification and adaptation of SPACE for picky eating. Together with Dr. Lebowitz, she is also the author of an upcoming book on the topic of restrictive eating.
