Who is this training for?

This session is a broad introduction to autism aimed at parents and carers of children on the autism pathway or recently diagnosed autistic.
This workshop is designed as a supportive space for parents and carers. It is not intended for professionals. If you're a professional looking for training, we offer bespoke sessions — please contact support@space2beme.org.uk for more details.

Is this session different to your other 'Understanding Autism' parent training?

We also offer a shorter session, more focussed session titled Understanding Autism: A Focus on Diagnostic Criteria, which is specifically designed for parents of children who are either on the diagnostic pathway or considering an autism assessment. This session - Understanding Autism: An Introductory Session for Parents & Carers - covers the same content regarding diagnosis plus additional topics. We recommend attending just one of the sessions, due to the overlap in content.

How will the training be delivered?

This is a seminar-style session, designed and led by our two Family Support Officers, Leighanne and Helen. There will be up to 30 attendees, seated in rows. You are welcome to move your seat or move around as needed — we aim to keep the session relaxed, accessible, and grounded in real-life examples.

What will be covered?

  • What is autism?
  • The diagnostic criteria
    • Social communication differences
