Carnelian is a new musical work written by Brown, co-composed by Samuel Beebe, concurrently on view at the M.I.T. List Center as a three-channel immersive video installation in Brown's first museum solo exhibition. This summer, Brown and Beebe will take Carnelian on an east coast tour with performances in Vermont, NYC, Maine, and Philadelphia. Seven additional vocalists and musicians will join at the Celebration Barn Theater (Maine) and the Icebox (Philadelphia Fringe Festival). At Deli Gallery, Brown and Beebe will perform their two-person vocal-piano-guitar set, sited within Eden Seifu's exhibition "Pilgrimage to my room."

About Carnelian

In the course of a single day, Necyria, Bicyclus, and Orachrysops await the imminent arrival of a cataclysmic event – the “Boom.” Throughout 8 songs, each character contends with their own definition of power, whether it be natural, political, or technological. Carnelian asks how we reckon with the "Boom" already being here, and how our humanity endures, in spite of itself, through these existential threats.
