Description
As part of our exhibition A Textile Assembly, Staffordshire St and Craft Show invites you to a baby friendly Craft Class.
Join us for a relaxed, drop in workshop where you will learn the very basics of hand weaving on cardboard looms while your baby sits on your lap, snuggles in the sling, has a feed or snoozes in the pram.
The curators of A Textile Assembly, Chloe and Rachael, will lead you through a gentle introduction to the ancient art of weaving, exploring colour and textures within this very simple form of textile construction.
This workshop is aimed at families as an opportunity to enjoy some time for yourself, be creative, and have a chat with other local parents whilst taking in the beautiful exhibition.

Chloe and Rachael are both practising textile artists and makers, and facilitate textile workshops aimed at sparking creativity and sharing the therapeutic nature of making.
Chloe works with constructed textiles and fibre and Rachael works with natural dye and patchwork. Alongside their practices they curate exhibitions that celebrate modern craft.
About the exhibition:
Staffordshire St presents A Textile Assembly, curated by Craft Show: an exhibition of textiles and textile art opening as a part of London Craft Week’s official schedule. Showcasing the work of both celebrated and emerging makers the exhibition will explore textile construction and the personal stories woven into their very fabric.
Craft Show has assembled an exciting group of makers, bringing together works from quilters Ferren Gipson and House of Quinn; weavers Jacob Monk, Pamela Abad and Vicky Cowin, printers Louisa Loakes and Caitlin Hinshelwood, natural dyer Samantha Russell and crocheter Kimberly Cookey-Gam demonstrating a variety of approaches to the medium.
Accessibility: There is step-free access to the gallery via the door to the left hand side of the main entrance. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet. The event will be taking place in the exhibition space, which is a large open room with bright lighting and some seating available.
Staffordshire St is an independent project space in Peckham, South East London. The venue facilitates arts and cultural events and provides affordable studios for artists, makers and designers.
Staffordshire St is not-for-profit and all income is invested into developing our public programme which launched the summer of 2022. The venue was established as an art gallery in 2017, before then it was vacant for many years after a community centre closed. Originally it was built as a Methodist Hall. We intend to support a range of cultural events for the local community.
Staffordshire St will build on the established record of these histories, opening up again to the neighbourhood and developing a welcoming interdisciplinary arts space. More information on upcoming events at : info@staffordshirest.com or @staffordshirest
