Staffordshire St is pleased to present لملمة; Gathering an exhibition threading together shared Palestinian identities through textile works – showcasing hanging pieces by Palestinian artist Areen Hassan and London-based Tatreez Collective.

In Stitching Palestine, a documentary by Carol Mansour, twelve Palestinian women living in Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine, draw upon the ancient and enduring art of Palestinian embroidery to share stories about their identities, tales of resistance and memories of their homeland.

This event is part of the STST Film Club, which provides collectives, curators and audiences with a space to explore cinematic conversations, push the boundaries of experimental film and showcase archival heritage footage.

They work closely with artisans in the West Bank and global communities to create participatory textile projects, workshops, and exhibitions that centre cultural preservation, women's livelihoods, and collective storytelling. They have led hundreds of workshops, teaching thousands of people around the world the art of Palestinian embroidery. They collaborate with organisations, museums, universities, and cultural institutions across the UK and Europe to share this heritage and keep the tradition of Tatreez alive.
Their work bridges heritage and contemporary practice, connecting generations and geographies through the shared language of stitch. Each thread carries memory, identity, and a commitment to keeping Palestinian cultural traditions alive and vibrant.

About the exhibition:

The concept of لملمة (v. lamlameh), proposed by Professor Abeer R. Musleh, is a process of lifting fallen pieces, gathering and weaving together.

Within the exhibition, the works of Areen Hassan and Tatreez Collective will do just this – welcoming a choir of woven voices into the space as global tales of so many displaced Palestinian people are stitched into the fabric of each artwork.

Every fibre connected in these beautifully crafted textiles becomes a powerful representation of the deep, ever-burning endurance of the Palestinian people.

Walk amongst these voices, give time and visibility to each story, and witness the collective action of لملمة; Gathering.

Accessibility: There is step-free access to the gallery via the door to the left hand side of the main entrance. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet. The event will be taking place in the exhibition space, which is a large open room with bright lighting and some seating available. Our accessibility rider is available here.

Staffordshire St is an independent project space in Peckham, South East London. The venue facilitates arts and cultural events and provides affordable studios for artists, makers and designers.

Staffordshire St is not-for-profit and all income is invested into developing our public programme which launched the summer of 2022. The venue was established as an art gallery in 2017, before then it was vacant for many years after a community centre closed. Originally it was built as a Methodist Hall. We intend to support a range of cultural events for the local community.

Staffordshire St will build on the established record of these histories, opening up again to the neighbourhood and developing a welcoming interdisciplinary arts space. More information on upcoming events at : info@staffordshirest.com or @staffordshirest
