Trans Chorus | The Way of the Roadwytch x Festival of Community

STST residents Trans Chorus have been invited by I.S.R.W. (Intentional Society of Roadwytches) to contribute to Libby Bove's archival exhibition: The Way of the Roadwytch. In the midst of Bove's collection of folk-fiction artifacts that delve into plant knowledge, magic and ritual, Trans Chorus will share songs and improvised offerings co-created during their GENERATIVE residency at Staffordshire St.

Made following the Roadwytch customs of care, pacing and gender-expansive approaches to the voice, the performance will explore how embodied singing can act as incantations that nurture trans+ folks at the intersections of disability and neurodivergence, helping them to thrive, not just survive. 

As well as sharing arranged songs and group improvisations, there will be invitations for the audience to participate in song, creating an integrated space that is not just about observing but rather empathetic collective sensing.

Please note that the performance will be filmed and the audio will be recorded. The footage will be shared across social media and with funders to hopefully spark more projects in the future. Because the performance involves disabled and chronically ill performers, we ask that the audience take a negative COVID test prior to the event and wear a mask if that is accessible. There will be limited tests and masks available on the door.

About the exhibition:

The Way of the Roadwytch will be the centrepiece of Staffordshire St’s annual Festival of Community 2026: a collaborative programme of workshops, events, exhibitions and drop-ins that will celebrate our neighbourhood and the communities that fill its streets. Exploring notions of community, place and belonging, Staffordshire St will become a locus for playful creativity and celebratory knowledge sharing.

Trans Chorus | @transchorus :

Every 3rd Sunday of the month, Trans Chorus hosts a workshop at Staffordshire St for trans+ folks at the intersections of disability, chronic illness and neurodivergence. Workshops focus on experimenting with the voice and movement to find embodied paths to creativity, routes which are generative for our bodies and support states of regulation.

Accessibility: There is step-free access to the gallery via the door to the left hand side of the main entrance. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet. The event will be taking place in the exhibition space, which is a large open room with bright lighting and some seating available.

Staffordshire St is an independent project space in Peckham, South East London. The venue facilitates arts and cultural events and provides affordable studios for artists, makers and designers. ​

Staffordshire St is not-for-profit and all income is invested into developing our public programme which launched the summer of 2022. The venue was established as an art gallery in 2017, before then it was vacant for many years after a community centre closed. Originally it was built as a Methodist Hall. We intend to support a range of cultural events for the local community.
