Staffordshire St presents a Film Club special in partnership with literary / architecture publication, Squinch Magazine. Publishing radical criticism, fiction, poetry, long-form essays, interviews and photography, Squinch encompasses a range of landscapes and buildings, spaces inhabited and emptied, spectacular and mundane.

The first in a series of squinch screenings: events which show the subject matter of the printed magazine in another medium demonstrating how the buildings, spaces and landscapes in squinch don’t just exist on the page but in the real world, in sound and moving image.

STST Film Club
at Staffordshire St provides collectives, curators and audiences with a space to explore cinematic conversations, push the boundaries of experimental film and showcase archival heritage footage.

John Gray writes about the history of the South London landscape. Andrew Finch is a filmmaker, writer and curator based in South East London. His work explores countercultures and the memories, mythologies and narratives of spaces. His films have documented Brighton's free party history, London’s rivers and dwellers, and the British post-industrial group, Coil. Andrew curates Carousel, an experimental film exhibition in London.

Lily Flashman is an architectural researcher based in London. Their work explores the politics of space, vacancy and extraction across the built environment. They are beginning a PhD at King’s College London investigating empty homes in the UK, and are one half of the spatial research collective, Affordance.

Wong Kwang Lin is a researcher and artist whose work focuses on civic space, community-led housing and anti-poverty. As a founding member of Affordance Collective, she works with dance, material installations, film and mapping, seeking enchantment in the mundane to interrogate and appropriate histories and uses of space.

Accessibility: There is step-free access to the gallery via the door to the left hand side of the main entrance. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet. The event will be taking place in the exhibition space, which is a large open room with bright lighting and some seating available. View our accessibility rider here.

Staffordshire St is an independent project space in Peckham, South East London. The venue facilitates arts and cultural events and provides affordable studios for artists, makers and designers.

Staffordshire St is not-for-profit and all income is invested into developing our public programme which launched the summer of 2022. The venue was established as an art gallery in 2017, before then it was vacant for many years after a community centre closed. Originally it was built as a Methodist Hall. We intend to support a range of cultural events for the local community.

Staffordshire St will build on the established record of these histories, opening up again to the neighbourhood and developing a welcoming interdisciplinary arts space. More information on upcoming events at : info@staffordshirest.com or @staffordshirest
