Phoenix of Gaza: Film and Q&A with Director Yousef Alhelou

In the summer of 2023, film director Yousef Alhelou returned to Gaza, the city of his birth, to reunite with family and document the vibrancy and resilience of his community. The result is an award-winning, internationally acclaimed documentary capturing breathtaking footage of historic buildings, bustling markets, serene beaches, olive groves, resorts, and moments of shared joy and celebration.

This intimate record has since become a precious archive of life under siege—revealing the creativity and resilience of a people who decorated their open-air prison and defied collective punishment. What began as a celebration of life lived against all odds has now become an act of remembrance, preserving memories of a land that has since been obliterated.

We invite you to join us for this special screening, followed by a reflective discussion with Yousef.

Refreshments will be available, and stalls featuring Zaytoun products and Palestinian arts and crafts will be open from 3:30–6:30pm. The documentary screening will begin at 4:00pm
