Per a decree (okay, a tweet) from Brooklyn drag queen Qhrist Almighty, 2026 is hereby declared The Year of the Hag. This year “we are celebrating the invisible and often uncompensated labor of the hag,” she tweeted early January. Historically, the hag is an often overlooked but vital part of the queer ecosystem. The name alone suggests some dowdy old interloping crone cackling and canoodling at the gay bar. But that take is reductive. *sips tea* 

The hag is the girl on the playground who tells bullies to leave the soft boys alone (or else). The hag is the good time girly who insists on picking up the tab. And the most seasoned hag knows the exact second to leave a party just before the orgy starts. With patriarchy slowly crumbling and Madonna putting out her best record in decades, what better time to give the hag her flowers than right now?

Enter HAGS! Produced by Lexi Costantini(Take A Shot Open Mic) and Megan Metzger(Delightfully Unbothered), HAGS is a comedy & variety showcase celebrating Chicago’s fiercest and funniest. Each month, audiences will be regaled with standup, drag, and puppets. And as a legendary Good Judy once famously said, “everybody loves puppets!”
