Continuum - The Postgraduate Program

Multiple dates and times The Kink Store, 94103

We’re excited for the next session of Continuum, the advanced program! The next class is on Monday May 18th and we are looking forward to keep building into this next phase of practice together.

This session focuses on Bamboo on the Body.

We'll explore how to attach bamboo as a structural element, how to integrate it into ties you already know, and how to leverage it into a full suspension. The session covers upper and lower body attachment points, body mechanics, and practical patterns for working with bamboo in your rope practice. The suspension component will be single-point, not bamboo.

If you have bamboo (1.5-2 inch diameter, roughly 3-4 feet long), please bring it. We'll have extra available to share if you don't.

Welcome to Continuum

Continuum is the ongoing postgraduate practice program of State of Ropes: a monthly advanced class designed for practitioners who want to continue deepening their rope practice beyond structured curriculum modules.

Originally created as the continuation for graduates of the Bootstrap → Groundwork → Elevate → Arise program, Continuum is now also open to experienced practitioners from the wider rope community who have developed a strong foundation through other courses, programs, or long-term practice.

These sessions are designed for students who already have solid fundamentals and experience with structural ties and suspension concepts. Because of this, Continuum is not suitable for beginners, but rather for those looking for an ongoing space to explore advanced material, refine technique, and study within a committed learning environment.

What Continuum Is

  • A 2.5 to 3 hour advanced class once per month
  • Focused, theme-based deep dives (structures, bamboo integration, advanced harnesses, experimental labs, guest instructors)
  • A space to explore at depth with a committed graduate cohort
  • Ongoing refinement, not repetition

Examples of What We’ll Explore

Continuum allows us to work on material that doesn’t fit cleanly into a module structure of our base curriculum: more technical, more nuanced, and sometimes more experimental. Examples include:

  • Bamboo on the body
  • Tying on bamboo 101
  • Advanced and additional harnesses such as:
    • Hip harnesses
    • Tengu
    • Ebi
    • Strappado
  • Gyaku Ebi suspension
  • Hashira 101
  • Hashira 201
  • Floating Hashira
  • Naka style tying
  • Nicolas style tying
  • Experimental transitions and hybrid structures
  • Guest-instructor labs and specialty formats

Topics will evolve based on cohort interest, votes, and what we feel ready to explore together.

Each session stands on its own, but together they create an arc of advanced study. Some sessions might make more sense or be easier if you came to the previous related session.

Prerequisites:
Continuum is designed for practitioners with solid Shibari fundamentals.

Participants should already be comfortable with core ties and structural concepts, including chest harnesses, hip harnesses, single and double column ties, and suspension techniques (uplines, upline management, lockoffs, cleanup techniques). Students should also have experience working safely with partners, communicating clearly, and managing tension, balance, and body positioning in rope.

If you have completed the State of Ropes curriculum (Bootstrap → Groundwork → Elevate → Arise) you are fully prepared for this class; practitioners trained through other programs or with equivalent experience are welcome, but should feel confident in their intermediate-to-advanced rope skills before joining.

Enrollment Options

You can participate in two ways:

1️⃣ Drop-In

$120 per pair per session
($60 per person)
-> $60 for solo observer or self-tyer

Ideal if you want flexibility or can’t commit long-term.

2️⃣ Continuum Membership (Postgraduate Tier)

All memberships:

→ Guarantee we will have a hard point reserved for you
Are billed in 6-month cycles
May be canceled before the next renewal cycle
Do not allow partial refunds during an active 6-month term, as this allows us to plan the classes and commit to the space

Pair Membership: $720 per pair for 6 months ($120 per pair per month)
Designed for partners who plan to attend together consistently.

Individual Membership: $360 per person for 6 months ($60 per month)
Designed for solo observers, self-tyers, or those who don’t have a committed partner for the full 6-month period.

Individual members are welcome to bring a partner for a specific class if they find someone who would like to join them. In that case, the partner can attend by purchasing a single-class guest pass for $60.

Guest passes allow participation in that session but do not include membership perks (such as recordings, early access, Discord access, etc.).

Membership Includes:

  • 1 Postgraduate class per month included
  • Influence on curriculum
    • Vote on monthly topics
    • Vote on guest instructors
  • Monthly 1-hour Zoom office hours (group based and upon request)
  • Private Discord community, including:
    • Ongoing Q&A channel (like extended office hours)
    • Early ticket announcements before public release
  • Member-only early access to:
    • Limited-capacity workshops with Guest instructors
    • Special formats (labs, intensives, socials)

Membership is designed for those who want this to be their ongoing rope home.

Note: The space has a limited number of suspension hard points, so class capacity is constrained. To ensure continuity for those committing to the program, membership participants receive priority access, and the number of drop-in tickets will be limited accordingly.

We’re excited to continue on this next chapter with you
