Need help?
Do you have an old Oil or Acrylic painting that has become darkened with age, developed cracks, suffered accidental damage or simply doesn't look quite as it once did?
Join picture conservator and art historian Dr Laura Bolick for an interactive Painting Conservation Clinic, where paintings brought in by members of the audience will be used to explore some of the common problems that affect paintings as they age.
Laura will begin with a short introduction to how a conservator examines a painting, looking beyond the image itself to understand the materials and techniques used to create it and how these can change over time.
She will then examine a selection of paintings brought in by visitors, discussing what she can see, what may have caused any deterioration or damage, and how such problems might be addressed. The session offers an opportunity to see how a professional conservator assesses paintings, learn more about their care and preservation, and ask questions along the way.
Would you like to bring an Oil or Acrylic painting? A limited number of attendees will have the opportunity to bring a painting from home for assessment during the clinic.
To put your painting forward, please submit photographs of the front and back, its approximate dimensions and a brief description of any concerns. A small number of paintings will be selected in advance to illustrate a range of conservation issues.
Submit your paintings to: laura@expertartrestorer.co.uk
Please note: that this is an educational event. Paintings will be visually assessed only; no restoration treatment or financial valuations will be undertaken.
