Orange the World Walk: Stop Violence Against Women
Share this event
Let's Orange the World this November! UNiTE to stop violence against women.
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on 25th November and ends on 10th December. Join Stepping Stones, the Inner Wheel Club Luton North, Azalea and Women's Aid Luton for FREE as we take to the streets of Luton to kick off this important campaign.
We'll be meeting at Stepping Stones HQ from 2.30 pm for a short walk around central Luton followed by light refreshments. The walking party will depart Stepping Stones at 3 pm prompt. All are welcome. - men, women and children!
Walkers are encouraged to wear something orange in solidarity with the UNiTE campaign to End Violence Against Women. This bright and optimistic colour represents a future free from violence against women and girls.
Last year around 40 people joined us for this walk. We are hoping to make this year's event bigger and better.
Why it matters
Violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights violations worldwide affecting one in three women. In the UK a woman is killed by a man every three days and the police record over 100,000 rape and serious sexual offences every year.
Sadly, justice remains out of reach for many survivors and funding cuts are reducing access to critical services and weakening the women’s rights organisations that help survivors navigate justice systems, obtain legal support, and rebuild their lives.
By walking with us you will help us make a bold statement that violence against women is never OK and also highlight the support available to women at risk across Luton and Central Bedfordshire.
