Gower Coastal Walk - Whiteford Point to Rhossili - 12 miles

Join us for the 3rd and final Gower Coastal walk - 12 miles.

In the past few months with Steven Massey Hiking Tours we have completed -

1) Swansea to 3 Cliffs Bay and 2) 3 Cliffs Bay to Rhossili.

So now is your chance to walk the final section and say you have walked all the Gower coastline.

We will be parking our cars in the National Trust car park at Rhossili at 8am. The transport will be leaving at 8.30am to drive us to the other end near the Whiteford Point lighthouse. We will then walk the 12 miles back.

Tickets for this walk cost £25.00. £15 for the walk and £10 for transport.

Highlights Include ---

1. Whiteford Burrows National Nature Reserve

Start through the extensive dune system of Whiteford Burrows. This is one of the largest dune habitats in Wales, with wildflowers, birdlife and a feeling of real remoteness.

2. Whiteford Lighthouse

The lighthouse is the star attraction of the first part of the walk. Built in 1865, it's Britain's only surviving cast-iron wave-washed lighthouse. At low tide you can walk much closer to it across the sands and rocky foreshore.

3. Whiteford Sands

A vast, often quiet beach with excellent views across the estuary towards Carmarthenshire. Keep an eye out for seabirds and, occasionally, seals offshore.

4. Broughton Bay

As you head south, the landscape opens into another huge sweep of sand. This section feels wonderfully wild and is usually much quieter than Rhossili.

5. Llangennith

You'll pass below or near the village famous for surfing and its historic church. 

6. Hillend and Rhossili Bay

The walk south along the beach is spectacular. Rhossili Bay regularly appears on lists of the UK's best beaches. The scale of the bay is remarkable, especially when the tide is out.

7. Worm's Head Views

As you approach Rhossili, the views of Worm's Head become increasingly dramatic. The tidal island is one of the most photographed landmarks in Wales.

8. Rhossili Clifftops

The finale is the elevated path and viewpoints above the bay. Looking back north, you'll be able to see much of the coastline you've just walked.

A couple of lesser-known things to watch for
The remains of old shipwrecks occasionally emerge from the sand on Rhossili Bay after storms.
Look across the estuary for views of the Carmarthenshire coast and the lighthouse at Burry Port.
The dune slacks around Whiteford can be full of orchids and butterflies in July.

Please bring plenty of water and sun protection. Much of the route is exposed, and on a sunny day the combination of sand, sea and reflected light can make it feel surprisingly hot even when there's a breeze. 

Pease also bring enough food/snacks to sustain you. We will have a couple of nice seaview breaks.
