Source of the Thames to Lechlade - 25 miles

Join us on this August Bank Holiday weekend for a full-day walk following the River Thames from its source to the historic riverside town of Lechlade. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the very beginning of England's most iconic river and enjoy some of the most peaceful countryside in the Cotswolds.

Tickets for this walk cost £25.00. £15 for the walk and £10 for transport.

We will meet at 7:00 am in  Riverside Car Park, Lechlade, GL7 3AQ, there, transport will take us  to Kemble Station, before making the short walk to Thames Head, the traditional source of the River Thames.
From the source, we'll follow the Thames Path and riverside tracks all the way back to Lechlade – approximately 25 miles. We expect to finish during the late afternoon or early evening, depending on the group's pace and the number of stops.

Route Highlights

Our walk begins at the humble spring known as Thames Head. Depending on the season, the source itself may be dry, but it's fascinating to stand where the Thames begins its 215-mile journey to London and the North Sea.
The first few miles take us through quiet Cotswold farmland before we join the young River Thames as it gradually grows from a narrow stream into a recognisable river.
We'll pass through the attractive villages of Ewen, Ashton Keynes and Cricklade, the first town on the Thames and an ancient crossing point with a rich history dating back over a thousand years.
One of the highlights of the day is walking through the Cotswold Water Park, a landscape of more than 150 lakes created from former gravel workings. Today it is one of Britain's most important wetland habitats, home to a wide variety of birds and wildlife. This section offers some beautiful waterside walking and a very different landscape from the river's rural beginnings.
Beyond Cricklade, the Thames meanders through peaceful meadows, willow-lined banks and open countryside towards Castle Eaton before reaching the attractive market town of Lechlade, where we'll finish the walk with well-earned refreshments by the river.

Bring plenty of water, min 2 ltrs, we are out all day. 

Bring enough food and snack to sustain you. Also, layers plus suncream/ hat if hot.
