Join us on this 18 miles hike, including two famous Black Mountains summits, Offa's Dyke, medieval priory and a pub finish In the priory at the same time as sunset and full moon.

Llanthony Priory, Hay Bluff & Twmpa — Full Moon Hike

Highlights include - 

18-mile circular mountain hike starting and finishing at historic Llanthony Priory, with approximately 858 m / 2,815 ft of ascent.

Peak 1 - Twmpa (Lord Hereford’s Knob) – 690 m / 2,264 ft, one of the Black Mountains' most distinctive summits. 

Peak 2 - Hay Bluff – 677 m / 2,221 ft, with superb views across the Wye Valley towards Hay-on-Wye and Herefordshire. 

A fantastic high-level journey through the Black Mountains, also crossing Bal Mawr and Chwarel y Fan before reaching Twmpa. 

 Walk a substantial stretch of the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail, following the long Hatterrall Ridge along the England–Wales border. 

Cross the spectacular Gospel Pass, between Twmpa and Hay Bluff.

Start and finish amongst the atmospheric ruins of 900-year-old Llanthony Priory, once one of the great medieval religious buildings of Wales. 

 Finish back at Llanthony Priory with the opportunity for a well-earned drink in the Cellar Bar.

💪 Strenuous mountain walk — a proper full-day Black Mountains adventure with long ridge sections, substantial ascent and potentially exposed conditions.

Sunset & Full Moon timings - 

Full Moon: 5:49 pm — this is the precise moment the Moon reaches full phase. 

 Sunset: approximately 7:00 pm at Llanthony.

Moonrise: should be at roughly 6:50–7:00 pm, very close to sunset, rising in the east.

So potentially we will have a fantastic bit of timing: sun setting in the west while the full moon is rising on the opposite side of the Black Mountains, all viewd through the beautiful Priory ruins.

Please bring plenty of layers, this is exposed mou tain terrain. It's a long day, bring plenty of food water to sustain you.
