Did You know?
The primary reason for the major transformation of the Elan Valley was the need of the city of Birmingham (in the West Midlands, England) for a large, reliable supply of clean water in the late 19th century.
The water travels by gravity from the Elan Valley to Birmingham: the reservoirs are about 52 m above the destination reservoir in Birmingham so no pumping is needed.
The Elan Valley calley is also one of the the top star gazing spots in the world -
