Are you part of a charity, social enterprise, or community organisation looking to strengthen your financial resilience?

Join us for a dynamic and practical Finance Forum designed specifically for CTSI and SVE members, trustees and senior staff.

How do Board and Committee members know that their organisation's money is being managed properly?

You don't need to be an accountant to be involved in overseeing your organisation's finances, but those responsible for its governance need to understand how its money is being managed.

For Trustees' Week, the Clackmannanshire & Stirling Third Sector Finance Forum is going back to some of the fundamentals of good financial governance.

This practical and interactive evening session will look beyond the figures in the annual accounts and explore the systems, controls and information that help trustees know their organisation’s money is being managed as it should be.

Would you know the answers to questions such as:

  • Who can authorise payments from your charity's bank account?
  • Who approves the manager's or Chief Officer's expenses?
  • What happens if a payment or expense involves a trustee?
  • What financial information does your Board regularly receive?
  • What happens when something doesn't look right?
  • How do you know that the financial controls agreed by your Board are actually being followed?
  • Where can you find your organisation’s agreed procedures and financial controls if you needed to check?

Through practical examples, discussion and peer learning, we'll explore the questions Board and Committee members should be asking, and share approaches that can help strengthen financial governance.

There will also be an opportunity to hear from, and learn alongside trustees and third sector colleagues, from across Clackmannanshire and Stirling.

No finance background is required.

Whether your organisation is a charity, Community Benefit Society, Community Interest Company or unincorporated association, and whether it is entirely volunteer-led or employs staff and has dedicated finance support, the central question is the same:

How does your Board, or Committee, know that your organisation's money is being managed as it should be?
