It's a Wrap with Helen Seiver - T4W25: T&T

Sat 1 Nov 2025 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM AWST Stirling Street Arts Centre, 6230

Tutor: Helen Seiver

Workshop:        It's a Wrap

What you will learn:  Participants get to create a 'tiny' book they can write in. It is made out of folded and stitched A3 watercolour paper so you can draw and paint on it.
You'll also get a box you can decorate or use as is which can keep your book of 'wisdoms or stories, plus other things.
This is then all wrapped up in a cloth. You can bring fabric meaningful to you or use the fabric available.

As we grow older it is important we take time to reflect on our lives and hard earned wisdoms and share these with those who remain. In this workshop, we will take time to create a legacy book and wrap for you to share with the people who matter to you. Inspired by ceremonial gift wrapping in Japan where wraps are made with care, often hand embroidered or appliqued with symbolic designs that reflect a person’s life journey: weddings, birthdays, funerals, family sayings and everyday life. The wrap will cover a small box containing the handmade book sharing your memories and life wisdoms.

Artist Profile - About your Tutor: Helen Seiver lives on Wardandi Land, Stirling Estate, and her practice explores personal narrative through sculpture, painting and installation. She regularly uses found objects and materials, exploring their unique quality of suggesting time, place and era. Making art gives Helen processes to investigate, and a platform from which to talk about the things that really matter to her; be they environmental, political or intensely personal issues. Using a variety of mediums, Helen's processes often involve long and sometimes quite laborious and repetitive processes which allows time to reflect deeply on her concerns and concepts. She has facilitated many workshops and taken part in multiple solo and group exhibitions. She has also been a Visual Arts Lecturer with Edith Cowan University, Bunbury Campus. Helen has work in many public and private collections: Holmes a Court, City of Bunbury, Shire of Mundaring, Horn Collection etc. and has received many awards. More recently she was honoured with a Two Year Arts Fellowship with Regional Arts Australia and the Inaugural Artist residency with New Norcia.
