Workshop:
Introduction to Oil Painting 

What you will learn:

Learn how to paint with oils!

You will learn essential painting techniques, completeing your own painting with guidance from your tutor, Andrea Schell.

Over 4 weeks you will learn:
• How to mix paints to get the colour you want with only 6 colours and black and white.
• What brushes and painting medium to use.
• What essential tools, materials and oil paints you need to set yourself up for oil painting.
• Tips and tricks for painting with oils.
• Steps from planning a composition to the finished painting.
• Working effectively and safely with oil paints.

Bring with you: 

Notebook and pen
Old rags

Two empty glass jars
Titanium White oil paint

Small canvas or board for final painting (will discuss in class on week 2).

Wear clothes or apron suitable for oil painting and closed in shoes

You will be given a kit of the paint colours we will be using. When you run out of the supplied paint, you can buy your own or you can purchase more of the supplied paint.

Andrea Schell is a visual artist and teacher who draws and paints from life, delighting in paying close attention to the beauty of ordinary moments and overlooked places. For Andrea, art-making is a direct path to reconnecting to the quiet intimacy of life while also tapping into a long and rich history of making images.
