Workshop: Landscape Painting in Oils

What you will learn: Discover the Joy of Landscape Painting in Oils – A Post-Impressionist Adventure! 🌿

Have you ever dreamed of capturing rolling hills at Ferguson, glowing skies reflected in a calm ocean off Koombana Bay, or early morning stillness of the estuary in rich, vibrant oil paint? Now’s your chance!

Join our Beginner’s Landscape in Oils Workshop, inspired by the bold colour and expressive brushwork of past artists. During four relaxed and fun filled sessions, you’ll learn how to transform a blank canvas into your very own post-impressionist masterpiece.

🌟 With heaps of support and baby steps you will learn how to:

Design a strong composition using the six key principles of composition
Confidently sketch a landscape directly onto canvas
Identify tones (lights and darks) to create depth and atmosphere
Follow a process to paint expressively using three colours to create harmony and impact
Your own style will develop over time— with plenty of fun, guidance and encouragement
This workshop is specially designed for beginners, so no prior experience is needed. You’ll be guided step-by-step in a warm, friendly environment where experimentation is encouraged and mistakes are simply part of the creative journey.

✨ With a maximum of just 10 participants, you’ll enjoy personal attention and a supportive group atmosphere.

By the end of the four sessions, you won’t just have learned new skills — you’ll have created a landscape painting you’ll be proud to hang on your wall.

Come and discover how a few colours, a canvas, and your imagination can open up the magic of creativity.

Artist Profile - About your Tutor: Sue Jemmett is a mixed media artist whose practice explores the quiet resonance of place, memory, and observation. Working across acrylic, oil paint, watercolour, drawing media, and linoprint, she brings a thoughtful sensitivity to landscapes, seascapes, interiors, and still life.

Her work is driven by an intuitive response to environment and atmosphere. Whether capturing the shifting light across a coastline, the intimacy of an interior space, or the composed stillness of everyday objects, Sue's paintings reflect a careful balance between structure and spontaneity. Layering materials and mark-making processes, she builds surfaces that invite close looking and contemplation.

Recently completing her Bachelor of Arts, Sue combines formal training with a strong foundation in education, holding a teaching qualification that informs her reflective and research-based approach to art-making. Her commitment to observational practice and material exploration continues to shape her evolving body of work.

In recognition of her practice, she was awarded a Still Life prize at the Brunswick Show, acknowledging her ability to elevate familiar subjects through composition, tone, and painterly sensitivity.
