8 week Workshop: Capture the Light in Oils 

Join our A la Prima Oil Painting classes to unlock the joy of capturing the light in eight engaging lessons. These relaxed workshops welcome all skill levels and feature step by step demonstrations of direct painting methods. You’ll learn to mix colours confidently, build form quickly, and capture life spontaneously through wet in wet techniques and layering.

• Have fun testing out a limited colour palette. Then, learn how to extend your approach with ideas you have chosen from other artists in history
• Perfect for beginners and experienced artists to explore various artistic styles in post impressionism.
• Emphasis on effective composition, perspective, clean colour mixing, thick paint and strong brushwork
• Lean how to fix mistakes or opportunities
• Bring a friend or two: in a group you will learn even more from each other

Break out or your norm and try a new genre,  landscape, interiors, or still life.

Some oil paints are provided, however these are the colours required:

• 1 red, 1 crimson,
• 1 pthalo blue and 1 ultra marine blue
• 1 yellow and one lemon yellow
• 1raw umber

Cleaning Solution
Gamsol.
(If you would like to try Gamblin Cold wax/ or crackle medium bring it along).

About the Facilitator
Sue Jemmett is a mixed‑media artist whose work explores the quiet resonance of place, memory, and observation. Working in acrylic, oil, watercolour, drawing, and linoprint, she brings a sensitive, intuitive approach to landscapes, seascapes, interiors, and still life.

Her practice balances structure with spontaneity, layering materials and marks to create surfaces that invite slow looking. Recently completing her Bachelor of Arts, she pairs formal training with a background in education, shaping a reflective, research‑driven approach to making.

She was awarded a Still Life prize at the Brunswick Show, recognising her ability to elevate everyday subjects through tone, composition, and painterly nuance.
