The Tragedy of Loss - THE KELLETH PIANO TRIO

The Kelleth Piano Trio return to St Mary’s with a thought-provoking programme of music by Joseph Haydn, Sally Beamish, and Dmitri Shostakovich.

Bringing together Classical elegance, contemporary imagination and intense twentieth-century drama, the trio will perform works that show the piano trio at its most expressive and searching. Haydn’s music offers clarity, wit and poise, while Sally Beamish brings a distinctive modern voice to the programme. At its heart is Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2, a powerful and deeply moving work, full of stark beauty, emotional urgency and haunting intensity.

Join us for an absorbing recital from this accomplished ensemble in the resonant surroundings of St Mary’s. The programme promises contrast, depth and drama, inviting the audience into a musical conversation across centuries — from Haydn’s refinement to Beamish’s contemporary sound world and Shostakovich’s unforgettable emotional landscape.

Music at St Mary’s is the next chapter of our much-loved Fine Music for Free recital series. Each event offers a 45–60 minute performance, with wine and nibbles available before and after the recital. The musicians are usually available to chat afterwards, giving audiences the chance to meet the performers in an informal and welcoming setting.

Entry is by a minimum donation of £5, with ticket income and any additional donations shared between the musicians and the church, supporting both live music and the life of St Mary’s.
