What you'll discover
The Lost Pubs Project - From Whyte Lyons to Angels
This lost pubs walk through the heart of St Neots turns into a gentle act of time travel, tracing the outlines of places where the town once gathered, argued, flirted and celebrated.
Starting near the River we will pause by the Half Moon and the Cross Keys Inn, once a bustling Coaching Inn and imagine the clatter of hooves on its once cobbled yard and feel the warmth and welcome of its one mighty lamp.
As we wander around the Georgian Facades of the Market square, the ghosts of the Old Falcon inn and the Bull Inn linger in the architecture, subtle clues in Brickwork and old signage. The buildings still listening for the next round of beer to be ordered...
Further along our walk we will see how communities shift. The site of the old Royal Oak now sitting quietly awaiting its next life, while the former New Inn reminds us that inns and pubs were the social engines of a vibrant and busy market town serving large numbers of agricultural workers along side the growing industrialisation of a very busy town.
Ending our walk at the Boot having stitched together a map of memory, one that reveals how St Neots has evolved in its long history. But importantly, how its character has endured in the Echo's of these longΒ vanished gathering places
