Stockport Lacrosse Club celebrates 150 years of lacrosse history

Stockport Lacrosse Club - recognised as the world’s oldest lacrosse club - will celebrate a landmark 150th anniversary in 2026, marking a century and a half of community, heritage, and sporting excellence.

Founded in 1876, Stockport has been at the heart of British lacrosse ever since. From its early pioneers to today’s players, volunteers and supporters, generations of families have helped to shape a club whose story is woven into the fabric of both the sport and the town itself.

The club’s 150th Celebration Dinner will take place on Saturday 27 June 2026 - a date chosen to honour the moment when Stockport’s founding members first saw lacrosse being played and made the decision to form what would become the first club of its kind.

Expect the club to be transformed into a lacrosse fantasia. Suspended vintage sticks draped in fairy lights, projectors casting game footage and messages, Club colours everywhere.

A three course feast and live music and dancing throughout the night, and our fabulous MC for the evening, local radio celebrity Mike Toolan.

This isn’t merely a dinner. It’s a reclamation of sporting soul. For every player who ever lunged for a ground ball, every supporter who braved sleet to watch a match, every official who donned the black and white striped shirt in the rain and every newcomer who’ll carry the flame forward.
