Art & Nature on National Meadows Day at Stockton Brook on Saturday the 4th of July, 2026

Sat 4 Jul 2026 10:30 AM - 4:00 PM Stockton Brook Scout & Guide HQ, The Fenns Meadow & Stockton Brook Waterworks, ST9 9NW

Stockton Brook Time & Space CIC invite you to visit a species rich traditional hay meadow in the Staffordshire Moorlands on Saturday July the 4th, National Meadows Day.

This is a free community event for all - families, farmers, artists and nature lovers. Come along anytime during the day, take some paper and pencils outside and do some sketching; enjoy a guided walk around the meadow and find out about the plants and insects here and the wildlife they support.

Stockton Brook Scout & Guide HQ, next to the Fenns Meadow is our base and where you can park for the day. There will be drinks, cakes and biscuits for a donation, and you are also welcome to bring a picnic. The meadow is next to the pictureque Caldon Canal, and there are lovely walks to discover.

This year, we are happy to also be in the Stockton Brook Waterworks, a short walk across the field. The Engine Hall will be open for you to drop into Drawing Nature. You will find an exciting nature table, inspired by Meadows and their surrounding habitats. Artists, Jane James & Andrea Durrant will be on hand to inspire with drawing tips and support if you need. Art materials are supplied. There are facilities at the Waterworks, but access is via steps.

Join Alison Boyle for Muse on Our Meadows, an exObjects workshop that will inspire your ideas, writing and art on Meadows Day and beyond. 11.00-12.00 in Stockton Brook Scout & Guide HQ. Free tickets available when you check out.
Bring along an object or choose something from our nature table that makes you think of 'meadows'. This can be a human-made object, or an idea that turns into something more real as it's shared with other workshop participants and we begin to write. All ages are welcome. Under 16s need to be accompanied by an adult. Free tickets are available when you check out.

Ecologist Ann Cantrell, is supporting us on the day with information about the flora and fauna here and why it is so important to restore and protect their natural habitats. She will lead walks through the meadows with artist, Mark Delf. We will also look at the variety of Moths active at night time over the meadow.

Book a ticket to Walk & Draw through the Meadows with Louise Adams. Pocket sized concertina sketchbooks with pencils will be available for £5.00 or you can bring your own. There are two walks, available at check out.

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear. The meadow will be cut for hay later in the Summer when most of the plants have seeded, so please stick to the paths.

This event is not suitable for dogs.

The art materials for the day are purchased with a grant from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

The day is also supported by brilliant volunteers.

Thank you!
