The New Washboard Syncopators was formed in West Midlands in 2003 with the traditional line up of trumpet, clarinet, trombone, banjo, string bass and percussion/washboard, playing the lesser known jazz tunes from the '20s/'30s. in December 2015, the leader re-located to South East Cornwall.
Soon after, the band was reformed with established, well known jazz musicians from Devon and Cornwall. The current line up is Graham Trevarton (tpt), Dave Vaughan (clarinet, tenor sax), Ron Milford (trombone), John Baker (banjo), Jeff Burton (tuba), Tony Quinn (percussion, washboard, guitar). The tuba player originates from the USA and formerly employed by the Walt Disney Corporation as a musician. He now lives in Cornwall. The band plays a variety of Trad and New Orleans jazz tunes with a hint of '50s skiffle. Their main aim is to entertain the audience.
Recent appearances include Plymouth Jazz Club, Bude Jazz Club, Kingsbridge Jazz Club.
