Extended guitar hero Oren Ambarchi presents a new multi-channel mix of his acclaimed album ''Shebang', a long-form piece from 2022, in a special 4DSOUND version.

Spatialised at Monom Studios with support of the Richard Thomas Foundation.

Seating is unreserved. There will be a mixture of seating, cushions and standing room available - please contact us if you have any specific requirements.

Shebang features an international all-star cast of musical luminaries, their contributions recorded individually in locations from Sweden to Japan yet threaded together so convincingly (by Ambarchi in collaboration with Konrad Sprenger) that it’s hard to believe they weren’t breathing the same studio air. The album, released by Drag City, features Ambarchi on guitars and whatnot, with special guests: Chris Abrahams (piano), Johan Berthling (acoustic bass), BJ Cole (pedal steel), Sam Dunscombe (bass clarinet), Jim O'Rourke (synths), Julia Reidy (12-string guitar), Joe Talia (drums).

Though single-mindedly occupying its rhythmic space throughout, Shebang’s dense ensemble sound is carefully composed while drawing on the free flow of improvisation, with individual voices momentarily coming to the fore and subtle changes in harmony and texture. The ensemble surges through a slow series of harmonic changes before the whole shebang dissolves into a delirious synthetic mirage.

Bridging minimalism, contemporary electronics, and classic ECM stylings, and bringing together a cast of preternaturally talented contributors, Shebang is unmistakably the work of Oren Ambarchi: obsessively detailed, relentlessly rhythmic, unabashedly celebratory.

Casimir Geelhoed
is a composer and software developer who explores expressive relationships between software and sound. Recurring themes in Geelhoed's musical work are a focus on introspection, anxiety, overstimulation and fragility.

He will present his 2022 4DSOUND piece “Scatter, Swarm, Sublimate”, where he connects methodologies of noise music and spatial sound, making expressive usage of the tipping point at which individually perceivable sound sources melt into indefinable overarching sound masses. His performance combines dazzling environments of overstimulation with moments of fleeting clarity.
