Ontario Green Screen's Spring Community Meeting is offering a FREE virtual screening of the documentary The Interceptors followed by a panel discussion exploring food waste solutions in film production. Our solutions-focused panel with leading experts within the film and food industries will discuss strategies for reducing food waste in production, while dispelling myths around food donation. Where can excess catering and craft food be donated and how can the industry divert its food waste from landfill?

ABOUT THE FILM
The Interceptors explores the story of a new community-driven, technology-enabled network with the goal of reducing food waste and nourishing the Vancouver community. The film follows first-generation Filipino-Canadian Chef TJ Conwi as he turns a mountain of surplus food collected by Vancouver Food Runners into delicious meals that are distributed to the food insecure.
PANELISTS
Chef TJ Conwi – THE INTERCEPTORS
TJ has a passion for both West Coast and Asian cuisine and has become well known in Vancouver as a talented chef, as well as for his commitment to supporting the Vancouver community. As the owner-operator of Ono Vancouver, TJ runs a kitchen consulting company that helps small to medium scale business food programs. In his community work, since the beginning of the pandemic, TJ has committed himself to supporting local community partners, using surplus food to provide over 1,200 meals a week for community partners, including Health Initiatives for Men, Directions Youth Services and Kilala Lelum.
Amy Robinson, Senior Manager, Corporate Partnerships – SECOND HARVEST
Amy is the Senior Manager of Corporate Partnerships at Second Harvest, where she plays a pivotal role in assisting businesses with their food rescue programs on a national scale. Amy leads a dedicated team that rescues 60 million pounds of food annually, collaborating with retail and foodservice businesses to facilitate the donation of surplus unsold food, ensuring it reaches those in need rather than ending up in landfills. With a strong background in hospitality, Amy is deeply passionate about supporting businesses in their efforts to divert surplus food from waste, contributing to a more sustainable and responsible food system.
Samantha Leigh, Sustainability Consultant – GREEN SPARK GROUP
Samantha is a Sustainability Consultant for the film, TV, and advertising industries with Green Spark Group. She has worked with productions, studios, agencies, and industry organisations to support sustainable transformations. Sam has helped complete research projects and enjoys analysing and interpreting data, regularly using various industry carbon calculators. She also regularly delivers sustainability training programs. Sam was given the Rising Star by the Corporate Star Awards in 2024.

David is the owner of Toronto's leading film and television catering company, David Mintz Catering (DMC). David has consistently delivered great food and genuine hospitality to cast and crew since 1988.
