Illustrator Duncan Beedie is back for a story time session based on his latest book Don’t Do It, Doug!, written by Maudie Powell-Tuck, about an accident-prone hamster who struggles to fight his compulsive urges – leading to scenes of chaos and disruption. Duncan will invite the audience to think up new potentially catastrophic scenarios for the hapless Doug and do his best to draw them before leading a how-to-draw Doug draw-along for children and adults alike.

About the book
From the creative team of Hank Goes Honk comes Don't Do It, Doug!, the story of a lovable hamster with a penchant for curiosity – and a serious lack of impulse control. Poor Doug. There's not a lever he won't pull or a button he won't push. Will he ever learn to control himself? Children will giggle at Doug's silly antics and will love watching the unfortunate consequences of his actions unfold, while grown-ups will appreciate the themes of friendship and learning impulse control.

About Duncan
Duncan Beedie is a children's author and illustrator from Bristol who has been working in picture books for over a decade after previously working in 2D animation for 15 years. His debut book The Bear Who Stared was nominated for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize in 2017 and he has since gone on to write and illustrate titles for Templar, Little Tiger, Quarto, Scholastic and more.

Children under 12 must have an adult with them at all times. Babes in arms do not require a ticket.

About the venue
We The Curious is an interactive science museum, with a cafe, shop and main entrance. Storytale Festival is on the top floor, accessible from the side door that opens out onto Millennium Square, very near the shiny metal Planetarium. Look out for our signs and volunteers who will show you where to go.

Once you are in the door, there is a lift to the top floor, with accessible toilets and a large main room (The Rosalind Franklin Room). There will be buggy parking, a cloakroom and activities in that space. The events will mainly be taking place in rooms that immediately join onto the main room. There is also a balcony space outside. Directions

We The Curious is in Millennium Square in the centre of Bristol. There is plenty of cycle parking, it is a short walk from many city centre bus stops and 20 minutes from Bristol Temple Meads. You could also get a ferry!

If you are travelling by car, the venue is within the Bristol Clean Air Zone so you may incur a fee if you use a vehicle. There is a car park directly underneath the venue, with 22 blue badge spaces and lifts for access. Use BS1 5LL to get to Millennium Square Car Park.
