The Event
Don’t Intrude on my Mood! is a book about a little cat who throws a big tantrum! As a result of his fiery temper, he rants and raves and rants some more – only to be interrupted by his mother, who has some unexpected news...

In this interactive session, children’s author Rea Malhotra Mukhtyar will raise the questions: What are emotions? Can you name a few? Can you remember a time that you got very angry? When you get angry, what happens to your body? How do you feel?

Rea will read Don’t Intrude on my Mood! and, with the children’s help, discuss the images, colours, words and expressions conveyed in the story. Everyone will have the chance to join her in acting out parts of the book.

Using a ‘Make Your Mood’ worksheet, the children will be asked to draw three different emotions on the cat’s face, focusing on how their eyes and mouth might look different for each expression, and linking each emotion to a colour.

By the end of the session, children will hopefully be able to describe and demonstrate appropriate ways to cope with challenging emotions such as anger!

About Rea Malhotra Mukhtyar
Rea Malhotra Mukhtyar is an award-winning children’s author, who is passionate about telling stories full of heart and humour. Born and brought up in Bombay with a voracious appetite for company, she adored books and food in equal measure. Like most grown-ups, she juggles many responsibilities, such as being an English and Drama teacher, a freelance writer, actor and voice-over artist.

When Rea’s not busy being responsible, she enjoys swimming with jellyfish, dancing in muddy fields, and buying far too many sparkly things. Her stories are full of funky hairdos, grumpy kittens, and Spanish soap dishes. It’s hard work being this silly, but someone’s got to do it.

Children under 12 must have an adult with them at all times. Babes in arms do not require a ticket.

Directions
We The Curious is in Millennium Square in the centre of Bristol. There is plenty of cycle parking, it is a short walk from many city centre bus stops and 20 minutes from Bristol Temple Meads. You could also get a ferry!

If you are travelling by car, the venue is within the Bristol Clean Air Zone so you may incur a fee if you use a vehicle. There is a car park directly underneath the venue, with 22 blue badge spaces and lifts for access. Use BS1 5LL to get to Millennium Square Car Park.

About the venue
We The Curious is an interactive science museum, with a cafe, shop and main entrance. Storytale Festival is on the top floor, accessible from the side door that opens out onto Millennium Square, very near the shiny metal Planetarium. Look out for our signs and volunteers who will show you where to go.

Once you are in the door, there is a lift to the top floor, with accessible toilets and a large main room (The Rosalind Franklin Room). There will be buggy parking, a cloakroom and activities in that space. The events will mainly be taking place in rooms that immediately join onto the main room. There is also a balcony space outside. We will have headphones and a sensory space.
